Meeting Handouts

Hello Homeschool Families,

Below are the main handouts that I shared at the 4-H informational meeting on August 26, 2015 at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension office in Lillington.  I have added a little blurb above each link to explain what each document is so you can choose which items you would like to download.  In addition to these handouts, we discussed 4-H educational kits and programs that we have available that are aligned with the NC Essential Standards.  We have Bugout and Embryology which are aligned with second grade, Soil Solutions with third grade and  Magic of Electricity with fourth grade.  Embryology has been temporarily postponed by the state 4-H office until January 15, 2016 because of the threat of the Avian Flu.

We did have a lot of interest in forming a 4-H Homeschool Club.  We have several families who gathered after the meeting to discuss forming a club and I believe we will have one or two clubs formed as a result of our meeting.  I will keep the Facebook page updated when we have an officially formed club.  If you have questions about the handouts below or need more information, please call or email me.  My email is jhelton@harnett.org and my direct office number is 910-814-6027.  A big thank you to Audra and Toni for helping make this meeting happen.

These two PDF files has information about the South Central 4-H District Science Fair that is a part of our 4-H presentations program.  This program is available for 4-H members who are between the ages of 5 and 18 as of January 1st of the competition year.  I also shared that if we have enough interest, we can have a Harnett County 4-H Science Fair each year as well.

The 5th H Power Point attached below was created by Nathan Barrick, a Forsyth County 4-H member in a family I worked with for years when I was the agent in Forsyth County.  Nathan taught a version of this Power Point at the NC Homeschool Association state meeting to encourage homeschool families to join 4-H.  This Power Point is used by 4-H Agents across North Carolina to market our program to homeschool families.  I have updated the presentation with current information.

This PDF document is the 4-H member enrollment form.  Each youth who wants to participate in 4-H, whether in a 4-H Club or as an At-Large member must complete this form and return to my office.

These three PDF files are for those wishing to become a 4-H volunteer,  The first two are required for anyone wanting to become a 4-H Club volunteer.  The first is a release to Harnett County Government to preform the background check and the second is the state 4-H Volunteer Application.  The Episodic Volunteer form is for volunteers who support screened volunteers or paid staff members.  This can include parents who teach at a club meeting or judges at a science fair.

This PDF is from our 2015 Summer Fun program to share the types of programs we taught as a part of 4-H Special Interest programming.  The members who enroll as At-Large members or enroll in a 4-H Club can be added to our email listserve and receive information on programs just like these.

I asked some homeschool families that have been involved with 4-H to share their stories with you to give an idea of how 4-H has impacted their lives.  I hope someday to add many new stories in the future from those of you who will be joining Harnett County 4-H.
