We are proud to share that Mary Jac Brennan, N.C. Cooperative Extension Horticulture Agent in Forsyth County who specializes in small farms and local foods, has earned a prestigious ECHO Award from the Winston-Salem Foundation.

ECHO Awards, which stands for Everyone Can Help Out, are given annually by The Winston-Salem Foundation to honor individuals and organizations that are building social capital. The Winston-Salem Foundation defines social capital as “connections among people, based on trust, that enhance cooperation for mutual benefit.”

Brennan earned her award through her passionate work with N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center. She has been instrumental in establishing many community gardens, the Urban Farm School, and the Forsyth Community Food Consortium. Through these programs and many others, Brennan has built connections between community members, farmers, health care providers, and policy makers that have made positive change in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.

We are very proud of the hard work she has done on behalf of our community and Extension. Congratulations, Mary Jac!
